There's an interview with David Howes in today's HDM in which he confirms another club made an offer that "blew the others out of the water". He says Ellis wasn't looking for the highest bidder and that Hull's offer ticked all the right boxes.

Howes had drawn up a shortlist from which Ellis eliminated certain clubs.
