I was in two supermarkets and a newsagent at the weekend, and couldn't help notice the piles of the paper in all of them, towering over their nearest rivals.

It doesn't look good if they can't even sell the first issue.

Interesting how they determined that figure, given that the unsold copies will not have been parceled up and collected by the wholesaler until Monday morning at the earliest. I seriously doubt the credits for unsold copies are known even now, Tuesday PM.

Once upon a time there was a tradition in the record industry (certainly in the US) of claiming higher sales than were really generated (and paying taxes etc on these fictional copies) for the simple reason of "it looks good and helps to sell the next one".
