Hence, I'm fine with a little light nonsense from Slade, Wizzard or even Dean Martin ... but want to vomit when I hear Johnny Bleedin' Mathis wheedling out "When a child is born". It's even worse if you actually listen to the words.
Bowie and Crosby, please, no, take it away. Poor old Bing, not knowing if he's on this earth or Fuller's, wondering who this plonker is that's singing with him.
"Fairytale of New York" ... well, I could never understand how a decent singer like Kirsty McColl could tie up with such a bunch of talentless deadbeats as The Pogues. (From which you'll gather that I don't like that one either).
Cliff Richard should put his mistletoe and wine in a blender and pipe the result up his septuagenarian @rse.
Miserable old git? Yes, now feck off my doorstep.
You have now lost all credibility when it comes to music matters.
You may not like them but to call them talentless

I don't mind that one, actually. It seems to be quite widely derided, but I think it's ok. I like Chris Rea's 'Driving Home For Christmas' as well - particularly when I am actually driving home for Christmas.

I don't recall it being derided, on what basis? It's a great tune, sung well, so i presume it can only be the preposterous story of the song? It's not meant to be true, but I reckon deriders would find far more suitable targets in the original version of the story

A lot of people I know don't like it and I've heard a couple of radio DJs mocking it. My claims are no more scientific than that.
