If Cooke is in shape then fine, but anecdotal evidence and the fact that he has been out of the game for a year suggests he won't be.
So just like DM I hope it's someone else for that reason only. But you seem to think it is Cooke. Or perhaps you were just playing games. And is Cooke in shape? Would you be happy with Cooke?
Still you can carry on throwing one-liners in that don't really contribute to the debate if you like. After all we will be the ones asked to stump up the dosh, and I think that this gives us a reason to have a view and speculate on our preferences. So if you are implying that we are somehow prejudicing and putting at risk the possible outcome, that would be a shame.
It was me, withdrawing my application as we needed a lean mean machine...it's kind of had any element of joke stampeded out of it now though

Not many players like that are around, especially backs. Obst would have been good, Tansey good player but loads of baggage.
If you are looking for a forward Ewan Dowes would tick those boxes, don't think he has a team yet.

I'd prefer to see four boxes ticked:
1) Played Super League up to the end of last season 2) Has no fitness worries 3) Still has the same hunger to succeed 4) Has been a loyal servant to previous clubs suggesting the same would apply now.

Those sort of players don't drop down to our level. We need to be realistic here. If it is Cooke then i think Tony and Carl would have had a good look at his fitness levels and accest whether its worth it. If he is somewhere near full fitness (although who is at this stage) then it would be a great signing.

I know nothing officially more than you, I however assume it be a half back, as this is what we need. Also the player must be in an influential position on the pitch in order to merit the belief he can make such a difference, namely a half back.
We know it is a former Super League player, and have to assume he is no longer considered Super league standard or has another reason other clubs do not want him (or, lets be fair, he would not be considering coming to us).
That doesn't leave many names in the hat to be honest. I assumed it was Rooney until Chunskter rubbed it out, the only other name I have is Cooke or Long. I'm going for the more local option of Cooke

I said I would like to see four boxes ticked to take away the risk involved in this investment. The fewer ticks, the more risk as far as I'm concerned.
I trust the club's judgement. I know they wouldn't want to commit to someone who they felt wasn't worth the risk but this is a huge decision for the Dons.
If the supporters back the club with hard-earned cash and the move doesn't work, it would be hard for the club to regain the fans' trust.
On the other hand if it works it could move us onto the next level both in terms of playing performance and supporter levels.
I commend the Dons for the initiative ... but I'd still prefer it not to be Paul Cooke. If it is, and they can assure me and other fans that they feel he is the missing piece to the jigsaw I will support them 100% ... and Paul Cooke.

I pretty much agree with everything you have said there. Maybe (if it is Cooke) we are not giving him a fair chance, but he has had a bit of controversy in his career. Who knows even if we only had him for a year and we made the cut for the 'four' it would help us on our way to recruiting better players when in the Championship. ..
i dont care if he is out of shape at min hes got bit of time to get there not bothered about friendlies or thomas the tank cup aslong as hes fighting fit for start of season and if it is just for the short term to get promotion so what as long as it works but it might not even be him

Fair play, I hadn't considered that it was your application, I thought you were acting as Cooke's agent. Forgive me!
