Client of ours who repairs TVs etc said its not worth repairing any LCD that has gone. But make sure it is the screen as sometimes its just a switch that burns out.

You could have bought all Comet for £2 last month. And you'd have got a £50m sweetener as well. Your next visit to the shop as the new owner/employer would have been worth videoing I reckon. Linky

Usually means they are looking for a cheap one, more often a second user one from a unit with another fault. Usually used as a time waster before offering the customer a stupidly small refund or offer of a vastly inferior replacement.
Thats what I was thinking, However the fault was reported within the 12 month warranty period (however its taking so long to sort the warranty is now over....) so I would assume I'm entitled to a full refund if it can't be repaired, or am I assuming this wrongly?

They are entitled to repair it, the replacement part need not be a new one either, you'd have to check the details in your warranty as to what kind of refund you can get and when, they may offer you a replacement model. You'll get them trying to repair or replace before you get a refund.
