Not only that, under a new EU directive, manufacturers can go to jail for 2 years, for claiming it can.

I'm not sure what is more astonishing - the conclusion the EU nutters have reached, or actually that somebody has been paid for THREE YEARS to investigate this, at the end of which 21 professors meet in Parma and (presumably with straight faces) announce that drinking water cannot be sold as a way to combat dehydration.

Was there ever a more telling example of how mad and utterly out of control the absurd and bankrupt EU machine is, and why it is in such as mess?

It all sounds completely bat5hit insane until you consider that:

a) The claim that was asked to be investigated was “Regular consumption of significant amounts of water can reduce the risk of development of dehydration and of concomitant decrease of performance”. (Link).
No relabelling is going to result from this, because no bottled water manufacturer was stupid enough to put an outright lie such as "This product prevents dehydration" on their packaging.

b) Dehydration isn't lack of water. It's lack of the water and salts necessary for normal bodily function. Drink too much water and the end result is dehydration . If you were to put together a list of provable medical claims then "water prevents dehydration" would absolutely not be on that list, hence the use of saline drips for "nil by mouth" patients rather than an upturned bottle of water.

c) The report was published in February and the Mail, Express and Telegraph all waited until the same day in November to whip out the scare headlines amidst collapsing European governments. Forgive my cynicism, but this is the anti-EU press making 5hit up to generate a confirmation reaction in people who've already made up their minds.

In other news, last week the US congress classified pizza as a vegetable.

It hasn't made it to this list yet. Looking through those I have yet to find an entry that didn't list one of the Express, Mail, Telegraph or Sun as an original source.

If the Eastern seaboard Mafia told you it was a vegetable wouldn't you say it was 8)

This year I want to see Us going forward in the last 5 minutes even if we are 40 points up.

They did it because of the tomatoes in the sauce. I'd have to tell them they can call it a vegetable all day, but pizza is clearly a fruit.

Even more so when it has pineapple on it.

I say it is both, and one 12 -incher counts as my 5-a-day

Tbh they've got a point, Drinking just water alone doesn't prevent dehydration. Now a product like Dioralyte can and does rightly so claim to prevent Dehydration. Because that contains the stuff that does actually keep you hydrated.
