It was as blatant a penalty try as you'll see and Thurston should have been sent off.
I don't think I've seen a player with a more dangerous tackling technique than Thurston, he tackled around the head on three occasions at Wembley and even after getting away with it last night he hit someone else high (Tomkins?). Nasty little scumbag.

Head high tackles are banned because it is dangerous, what Thurston did was dangerous and he suffered nothing for it. He should have walked. all players who do that should walk and it would be very quickly gone from the game.
Raynor got a red for trying to take Sam Tomkins head off last season in a pretty similar situation iirc and the same should of happened this time. The refereeing in the tournament was truly pathetic all round imo. It was like referees were told not to take their cards with them.
LOL @ soap dodgers for trying to blame the ref.... again.
The only blatant send off offence this tournament was Westwood punching a bloke whose back was turned. But that never seems to get a mention for some strange reason. Why? Because he's a pom perhaps.
It probably was a penalty try, but trying to turn it into a send off is a joke and truly shows the desperation with which poms like to try and turn every loss, no matter how massive, into a hard luck story. The better team won and the fact that England had to rely on a video ref penalty try to get their only try of the night proves it.

No it was an 8 point try and a red card. Tomkins still got the ball down somehow, despite being unconscious

So you are suggesting it is fine for any player who now knows he isn't going to prevent a try with a legitimate tackle , to assault the opposition player , he has nothing to lose by doing so , absolutely ridiculous

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

We could of had the ref playing for us and lets face it we still would of lost. Theres no need for cheap ass tactics that went unpunished many times during the tournament which is a joke.

Besides that your post is bullshit
I've yet to read an ECT post on any forum that isn't!
Pffft. Yeah, it can't be that the bias, sore-losers on here are looking for any excuse to mitigate yet another woeful effort in a final from the over-hyped pretenders wearing the St Patrick's cross (isn't that what that is?).
But I know you lot would have loved to see an Aussie sent off because it's the only hope England ever have of winning, to nobble the better team. We get it. But don't come back next time and claim that Aussies are whingers blah blah blah when yet again it is proven who the real whingers are.
