He was better in 05 than 04 where Bai was better and Id challenge that he was the best winger in the league when there was the likes of Carney & Albert. He had deficiencies in his game which is why he made very few international appearances.
You might disagree but I don't see why it's ridiculous to even think it when Calderwood had limitations to his game and only excelled in one season. I honestly cannot think of a time when I would describe Calderwood as the best in the league since in my opinion there were at least a few better wingers around, maybe not as fast, but taking all skills into account I would describe them as better.

I hear Mark Calderwood is now playing 5th division amateur RL in Yorkshire.

He's got to be up there.

Can't accuse him of just playing for the money I suppose.

If he still just wants to play the game for fun, then I can't fault that at all.

I like Calderwood. He made a few mistakes but he always seemed to play with heart and passion and we all like that don't we?

To be fair he was very unlucky, he did well at Hull and was well liked by the fans for his commitment, then he did his hamstring a couple of times, and Hull (quite rightly) decided not to gamble on giving him a new deal.

I reckon he'd still be playing for us now if it wasn't for the injuries.
