I know this has been done to death over the years and I know it won't change anything but I just wanted to voice my own personal disgust at the absolutely scandalous lack of promotion coverage for the undoubted biggest game of the autumn period in this country - England versus Australia Rugby League International.

I waited with trepidation whilst watching the "sports section" on the BBC this morning on the national news, to see if things could get any worse which I foolishly believed it couldn't; it did.

Nothing, zilch, diddlysquat. Not even a single solitary sentence.

Oh yes they found enough time to talk about "Rugby" (who do the Rugby Union think they are trying to claim the name?). The fact that Donald Duck and friends are lining up for the England Managers job. Then an article about some obscure Union cup played last night between a previously (to me) unheard of foreign team.

"Rugby" League - nothing.

Last week on the morning of the game we had even rounders (yes rounders!) in front of us in the pecking order.

Complete disgrace and totally disrespectful to "The" greatest game.

Rant over but who do i complain to? If I could start an on-line campaign I would!

It's reflective of rugby league's place in the national sporting psyche - don't blame the Beeb for simply reflecting it in their sports bulletins.

Why would the BBC want to discuss something they don't have the broadcasting rights to? Its like why would the Fleet Street newspapers want to dedicate a whole supplement to RL when we the RFL never buy advertising space? I'm not saying its right or anything, or that other sports do much better, just one reason out of many why we struggle.

Its why we should all get behind Magic weekend in Manchester; it will be as much about wooing MediaCity, home of the new BBC Sport department, than anything else.

Anyway...

Direct action is in order. Burn the local Union club house down.

If I did that the local RL team would have nowhere to play :)

I have sent my complaint to the BBC. In reply of the comment about why they should promote a sport they haven't the broadcasting rights to I would say this, the game at the weekend is (or should be) of news of interest. Surely it warrants that? I don't think the BBC have the broadcasting rights to rounders but they still find a news slot item for it?

While I was in my Victor mode I also complained about the BBC jumping on the trend of calling Rugby union "Rugby" bandwagon, as in the Rugby World Cup. It annoys me - I must be getting old :(

The BBC didn't have rights for the Union World Cup either, didn't stop them opening the evening news with Wales' defeat to France.

But they do have the rights to the matches that team plays in the 6N's.
