With this lad, it was 1 mistake and out of the door - leading to the assumption that they didnt want to keep him, because he wasnt that good.
I agree they tried harder because of how good he was, be Gelling was part of that group of young players who were an absolute disgrace and caused problem after problem. Quite alot of them needed to go regardless of how good they were. And it wasnt just one mistake, despite what you may have read.

typical saddend making stuff up again? lets emphasise on the word "abuse" so wigan have lost alot of senior players in the last two season's no doubt freeing up alot of cap space and we sign 3 young welsh lads with alot of potential and give charnley a new improved deal and sam tomkins the best english back in superleague. i think every one would agree this has happend and its a FACT not a rumour! well in that case no body should be in superleague as every off season every club is ABUSING the salary cap. so saddend how are wigan actually abusing the salary cap any different from the likes of i dont know let say hull fc or even st helens?

Hmmm....
When I read the quote, I thought the most pertinent bit was about giving young English players an opportunity. I think that's more important than how much Wigan are paying middle-grade overseas players. Let's hope this doesn't stop any young English players from being given their opportunity from an England point of view.

Last time I looked it was a rumour in the Sun, so unless that is now the official website for Wigan RL I'd say you're jumping the gun a bit to start being selective about quotes, especially when the selective bit was made-up in the first place.

Because those other sides haven't applied for cap changes.
Wigan demanded cap changes supposidly to keep English players in the game. They were given £100k of allowances based on players provided to the England Elite players list. They then spent all of said allowance on 5 players, a total of 0 of which are eligible for England selection.

Do you not see something where I'm coming from?
you are aware that these 4 players (not 5 unless the Sun counts as official confirmation) were signed before the cap increase and before Sams new deal? So you dont have a point. If Saints want to use it they can, like I said before if this was done earlier maybe Eastmond could still be in our game. I know you like to make stuff up, but the cap space from these FOUR new players didnt come from the extra allowance it came from the freed up space from players leaving.

I wouldn't call what he did a mistake. If he does sign it will be interesting to see the reaction from Wigan fans after what was said when Joel Monaghan signed for us last year after one 'mistake.'

jokes aside i really dont see your point no. sam tomkins has had a pay rise with that extra cash available just because hes had a pay rise are we expected not to sign anybody else end of the day look at the sqaud there must have been cash available... And its a FACT that wigan wasn't the only club wanting the salary cap to allow extra funds for home grown players... if sam tomkins didnt get a pay rise but instead wigan just said lets use hes old salary on the new rules and whats left of hes salary just spend on new players but they haven't done that!! so your actually moaning that wigan have just signed 3 young players who look to have great futures. aswell as pritty much delevoping wales rugby league for the future if wales can be strong at international level that is a whole new market to buy into rugby league.
Wigan under ian lenegan are the most transparent team to the RFL when it comes to salary cap as we still are the only team to send any contract proposals and transfere fees to them.
your delusional if you dont think saints are going to use that extra cash to improve contracts which in the long run will free up some money. And i dont have a problem with that if it keeps lomax from leaving.

Call it what you want, my comment was in reponse to someone saying he made 'one mistake'. I was pointing out that it was more than one mistake, incident, again call it what you want. Im not defending him as I am a Roosters fan and was living in Sydney at the time these young lads (and some senior players) were making 'mistakes' on a weekly basis. Which embarrassed the club and fans on numerous occassions.
