Our SL ones, honestly? O'Hara, not as good as Vella from two years ago. Withers, improvement on Fisher who as much as I liked him had been on the slide since 2009 and Withers does offer better cover in the halves. Hodgson, not bad, we've obviously given him a two year deal in repayment for him almost single handedly winning us the game at The Willows in 2007 which secured our SL status. Horne, seemed to have done alright at Huddersfield but I'd rather have kept Cook who must go down as one of the most pointless signings ever.

I'm not sure O'Hara is not as good as Vella from 2 years ago. I'd sooner have signed Lynch but then I don't think he's going to be earning as much as Lynch either. O'Hara is going to be playing in a side that is better than the Crusaders squad by a mile. If Clinton fires and Paea is as hard hitting as we have seen then our front row could be a real threat in this league. Vella wasn't hard hitting, he never hurt opponents, we have been the softies in this league since 2007, there hasn't been a player other than Ben Cockayne who has enjoyed mixing it and we certainly haven't been feared (not saying Ben was btw).

I remember a few years back the players went out after the Catalans home game and were completely beat up, they physically hurt their opponents by sheer size. This is what our pack needs to do to teams. Stop being soft like Vella was and start mixing it. I'm not talking about fighting all the time and giving away penalties I'm talking about hard legal hits that make players think twice about running direct, force them to take it in softer so we conserve energy and we can play the game at our own tempo. The best teams in the world do this and only the teams around them have the players who'll carry on running for 80mins.

loving hell nick, Mick Vella was the finest prop you've seen for a genaration to say he's soft is quite frankly a disgrace.

Nick HKR, like yourself, I am also of the opinion Rovers have needed the presence of an enforcer in the pack, which was why Morgan signed Fozzard and then Mason. But we need look no further because the grit that has been missing is/has emerged; the young guns who have come thro the ranks (Welham, Watts, Cox, Taylor and Lovegrove) hurt the opposition and aren't afraid to mix it. Beaumont and Green (giant) and a few more in the Reserves are in the same mould. Cox in particular plays on a short fuse and it was no coincidence he took one on the chin over at Catalans, but not before he had dished out a bit of retribution. He reminds me of Paul Rose.
One thing I don't agree with you on is saying Mick Vella was soft. He wasn't a dirty player but he hurt the opposition. Plus you don't get into the Australian team without being a big hitter. I would put Vella very high up on my list of being the best prop I have ever seen play for Rovers; for the record just behind Lockwood, Casey, Broadhurst and Neibling.
