It's becoming a relic of an older age like the Regal trophy is. Yes its good for teams that haven't won it for a while to have their day out at Wembley for the fans and so on but to get awarded a trophy for winning five games is a bit ridiculous. The true sign of champions is who finishes top over a tough league season we shouldn't be handing out trophies just for taking part.
What a complete load of nonsense. The cup is not just about winning 5 games its about a competition that if you lose you are out. No second chances. Wire (deservedly) finished top this year but lost more games that Wigan. We need both formats. If anything should be scrapped it should be the play offs. How league can then become knock out is one issue but we could be in the situaition where teams can meet each other 5 times is one season (6 if you include Magic weekend). Wigan v Saints in front of 12000 says it all. And before you point to full houses for your play off games the crowds still arent big and with the greatest of respect your team are giving you matches that you havnt seen before. The novelty will ware off if Wires success continiues. And yes this would all mean Wire are Champions, I for one wouldnt argue that they deserve it.
