Whilst I agree, if Catalans beat Wigan, that will make them the lowest rank, and they will be very dangerous, having already beaten us at our place and they'd be on a high after beating Wigan again.

Alternatively we could play Leeds or Hudds who could scrape in off the back of a poor performance.

It's a tough one, and for the first time there could be a shock selection. robably won't but I feel there is more reasoning to do so than the previous years.

Obviously if Wigan win, then the make-up will be similar to the previous years and you'd automatically go for the lowest team.

I think it will be scrapped this year if they refuse to choose anyone other than the lowest ranked side again.

I also think the Challenge Cup will be moved if Wigan don't reach OT.

Agree with the first part of this Saddened. As for the second part, you wouldn't be trying to wind up the fans of your nearest rivals would you?

No, of course I'm not.

I just think with the amount of bleeting Eddie did about how Wigan hadn't had a week off and how a SL coach was boasting that Wigan were done etc, that they will change it.

I don't get the fuss about the timing of the Challenge Cup Final being close to the end of the season. Wasn't it traditionally played in April/May when the league season also finished then?

Its not supposed to be easy to win both competitions, and on the rare occassion that a team manages to do both it should mark them out as an outstanding side who have achieved an outstanding double, irrespective of when the finals are played.

Warrington Worldwide wrote:Professor Broomhead will join the Sky team at the DW Stadium on Sunday night after Wigan’s game against Catalan to name the team selected by the club.

This to me suggests that the decision has already been made whether it is the lowest ranking remaining side, or financial (wigan, Leeds, Huddersfield, Catalan in that order). If the RFL/Sky are forcing the club to make a decision immediately after the game then it turns the whole thing into a farce.

What if the club has decided to select the lowest ranking team but then wigan finish the game with Finch stretchered off with a broken leg (I hope not, just a what if), O'Loughlin breaks his arm (agin I hope not) and Tomkins has lamped the referee after having a try turned down. With no time to consult would Broomhead still pick a resurgent Leeds team ahead of a wigan team missing Sam Tomkins, Finch and O'Loughlin?

Why not just scrap the Challenge Cup altogether?

It's becoming a relic of an older age like the Regal trophy is. Yes its good for teams that haven't won it for a while to have their day out at Wembley for the fans and so on but to get awarded a trophy for winning five games is a bit ridiculous. The true sign of champions is who finishes top over a tough league season we shouldn't be handing out trophies just for taking part.
