Quote Roonaldo6="Roonaldo6"It will have been close to about 15 years ago since I went in. I still return to my roots now and again as my dad still lives in Ossett, but I have to say pubwise it now is a ghost town. Gone were the nights of the teenagers packing Ossett town centre on a Friday night outside Cock & Bottle or Carps. Down to the Manhattan for a bit of a chat with the local dj's then either over the road to Sams Fitness Club / Nightclub to see a few fights kick off or down the road to the Thorn Tree for the lock in till 3am. And then Sunday morning football followed by a stripper in the Tavern I think (next to the social club, opposite OTT).
These days its just The Maypole and generally nothing else.
Sad really as Ossett holds so many memories for me.'"
All of that is indeed gone, and Ossett is much better for it.
It's not a pub ghost town though - you're making the mistake of assuming Ossett revolves around the town centre; we've got our very own real ale trail now, with the Brewers Pride down Healey Rd, The Tap on The Green and The Old Vic on Manor Road, all selling top quality real ale and two of them doing food.
Maybe it's an age thing, but what we've got now suits me just fine.
