Not suprising that though is it when other clubs players were fighting in World wars and the league was suspended Wigan made sure they got stuck into the Emergency war league and won that and have it proudly listed as an "honour"....
While not particularly wanting to get in the middle of this increasingly juvenile squabble you and Odem insist on polluting what is beginning to seem like every thread with, I have to take umbrage at the comment above.
It seems that you have confused coherent argument with lame ass, small time point scoring at its cheapest.
Yes, Wigan won two Emergency War Leagues in the forties which are listed as honours. Can’t see an issue there. You seem to suggest that because a number of teams (including Warrington – but not before they’d been runners up behind Wigan in ’41) dropped out (which resulted in the amalgamation of the Lancashire and Yorkshire War Leagues) that Wigan have done something dishonourable.
Do you have any opinions to offer about Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Barrow, Swinton, Bradford, and Wakefield winning the league during WWII? I guess the miners and shipbuilders playing for them weren’t able to combine making a significant contribution with playing rugby either.
To suggest that Wigan players made less of a contribution to the War than those from other clubs and that this is the reason they won it (twice) is despicable. I have relatives who played for Wigan during both WWI and WWII. Both of who were miners (does reserved occupation mean anything to you). One of whom actually won the league with Wigan, before going into the Navy, coming back, playing again and scoring at Wembley in’46.
A bit of actual history for you there.
He’s dead now so I can’t ask whether he’s proud of that – you don't seem to think he should have been.
Your version of history seems to be that Wigan gleefully treated global conflict as an opportunity to somehow take an advantage of these other clubs (who cares about civilisation when there’s a chance to get one over on the Wire – right?)
Wigan have an illustrious history. Denigrating what Wigan have achieved during that has no effect on Warrington’s history.
Enough from me……apologies to Saints fans for ranting on their board.
