I was going to get the Desire but two different people in two different shops and reviews online I changed my mind to the Wildfire as I was after a cheaper contract. I saw the Desire HD one for the first time last week, a mate of mine has just got it and it's a quality bit of kit mate, I'm really impressed by it. You've picked a good'un there. As I said I think apps for Android are getting better and there's more and more coming out all the time, maybe with my phone being a 'lower quality' the apps aren't looking as good.

Well I've been told that I've got to put £40 towards for the HTC Desire from my network, but that my bills will be £15-£20 a month which sounds spot-on. Didn't say which version of the Desire but not too worried too be honest, have had mostly Ericsson Walkman phones the last few years so any smartphone will seem really advanced for me.

To be honest the only ones I use are Racing Post, Facebook and a couple of fitness ones which aren't too bad but the higher quality phones would probably give you a better quality and quicker running app. But in general the Android apps aren't great, the ones available are quite crap although it is getting better and I'm noticing quite a lot of Iphone apps are becoming available in android so it is getting there.

To be honest I'm hardly one to make use of every last inch of processing power a phone has....cheers though, I shall make the plunge :)

This. I wanted a Desire HD. Rang them up before my upgrade was due and after telling them I was thinking of leaving I got offered 18 months at £15 a month and £100 for the handset. Rang them up on upgrade day and they said they couldn't do that. Anyways I kicked up a stink and after half an hour of rejecting their new offers I told them it was my way or the highway.

I now have a Desire HD on an £15 18 month contract. I don't really ring anyone so minutes aren't an issue for me but I have unlimited texts and 1gb data. Think I even got them to take something off the price of the handset.

Lesson is be a friend and you get a better deal.

Still am. Been using both the HD and S.Since the upgrade to Gingerbread on the HD the battery life has improved. The HD is a lot bigger, great for games and movies, the S is a more conventional size. Both are very responsive and running Gingerbread o/s, so it's about choice i suppose, do you want a large phone or normal size.
Also the apps are more than adequate, lots of good ones, the Iphone may have more but Android not far behind.

Just found out I can get an upgrade from Vodafone and tbh I'm getting a bit fed up with my BlackBerry Storm. It's a decent solid phone but is now showing it's age both coverage- and battery-wise.

According to the Vodafone website I can get a free HTC Sensation on the same plan as now. Should I? I see HTC phones are popular, but HTC/Android would be a whole new world to me. Mrs28 has an Iphone so I assume that it would be similar-ish to that? Main thing is does it have Angry Birds?

Grateful for any views.

Got my HD through phones for you. 30 quid everything unlimited 24 month. Might be even cheaper now. They gave me 50 quid for my Ericsson too

It is nice. Form factor is the only let down.

I have the Samsung Nexus S. Fantabulous phone and screen and it's so utterly fantastic form factor wise. Far nicer than your square HTC devices.
