It was an okay performance. Against a decent side we'd have been at least twelve down at half time, Salford bombed at least three tries in the first half, Patten in particular should have scored.

Alibert gave us very little, but the penalty he gave for no apparent reason to Dobson on the fifth tackle was an extremely fortunate six point gift.

Edge defence was again a problem in the first half, I really think we're missing Newton badly defending the right channel, Lovegrove is just too easily stood up, it's not his fault, it's a very big ask for him to defend out there with his limited footwork.

Second half the defence was much improved, a lot of pride in the shirt was shown and although we nearly let them back into it with some dropped ball and strange calls from Alibert we kept them out. We did allow a lot of off loads, our one on one defence was excellent, we stayed calm and waited for them to come at us then put them down.

Good performances from Cook, Cockayne and Dobson pulled the strings.

Palea'aesina got MOM for Salford, no idea why, Matty Smith was far and away their biggest threat.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Had a pretty good game against us, Smith. Wonder what he'd be like in a better side behind a decent pack.

Quality player, I can understand why St's let him go when they did but the way things have panned out they must really regret it now.

Don't think I could sum the game up better.

Room for improvement and the 2nd half left me feeling a lot more upbeat about chances in the next round, (fingers crossed home tie).

Salford had so many chances to get on the scoreboard, made the wrong decision every time in attack.

We took more support then we did for the league tie too so can't be blamed for that poor attendance, hopefully a new stadium can help Salford in that department, poor.

First half hour I was a bit concerned. Although it was no score it is fair to say Salford had been the more impressive team and they probably should have been ahead.

Salford had a lot of energy and more enterprise but Rovers dug in. I feel the Rovers we have seen for much of 2011 would have capitulated but not this time. Even as the first half counted down I thought someone would score and break the deadlock. Happily it was Rovers and it was Blake Green a man who has for me really exceeded expectations, especially with his ability to cross the whitewash.

Into the second half and still very unclear as to the eventual winner but Rovers looking more and more assured. Try of the game from Ben Cockayne but 0-12 isn't a commanding lead these days. Salford as in the first half had plenty of good field position and were certainly still in the game but Rovers defence seemed to get stronger & stronger and looked ever more capable of keeping Salford out.

Kris Welham then scored a try which he could not have done maybe even last year. He has now added strength and power to his game and managed to force his way towards the line and then get the ball down despite 3 or 4 tacklers trying to stop him. This man is now the real deal, I feel Yeaman will have to step aside for him when it comes to international honours.

Salford continued to have a good share of possession and field position but Rovers were now racing into the tackle and driving them back. Whereas some of the first half defending needed to be of a desperate nature now it was dominant.

Rovers polished Salford off with a late drop goal and then a Webster try. 0-25 tells a story but not the whole story because actually Salford were not at all bad tonight. They gave it everything but when they were on top Rovers wouldn't submit and those long spells clinging onto 0-0 were the matchwinner.

Forget the Bradford win this was far more important. Tonight we played a team who believed they could beat us and played confidently to the limit of their ability. Rovers overcame that and ended up convincing winners. Last week Hull had a bit of a 'soft' win against Salford but nobody would have had a soft win against them tonight.

Rovers finished the game dominant strutting around like a peacock. It had been real tough but if you finish a battle on the right side of 0-25 you've done OK.

If pmh ever holds a party I recommend you stay in and wash your hair. He's been at a different game to me tonight.

I couldn't hear the robin sing if not for you.

You're hard to please aren't you?
Btw are you the guy with "Goose Power" on the back of your Rovers shirt?

Ooh, published in "Kisser*" and now it's the real deal!

Scored a try, was anonymous for the rest of the game.

Finished well, but it was a run in, entirely created by the excellent Ben Galea.

Ran a good line, soft tackling allowed him to get his arms free, but did do well to score off the back of a penalty that Alibert gifted us.

Why is that then? In a game where your opponents couldn't catch a cold?

His Bobness wrote: I feel Yeaman will have to step aside for him when it comes to international honours.

Not very likely is it given that Yeaman's last decent test performance was in 2005.

His Bobness wrote: Salford were not at all bad tonight.

Yes, on this point I agree, other than the fact that despite having 60% of the possession they were terrible, coughing up the ball, wanging into touch or just throwing it anywhere.

His Bobness wrote:

True. For about fifteen minutes and in the second half, even at twelve nil, the body language from the Salford team was awful.

His Bobness wrote: nobody would have had a soft win against them tonight.

My Grandma's whist team would have fancied their chances tonight and she died in 1987.

And I'd just written your invite, I'd used a gold pen and everything. Down to fifteenth reserve of the bloke who played The Crow Man in "Worzle Gummidge" I suppose.
