Scenario: Galea gets his Maltese passport and comes off quota, Mason cannot re-register so signs for Bradford on loan, we sign another Aussie test forward on a deal until end of season.

In this scenario, assuming you have unlimited cash, could you de-register 5 quota players, give them jobs as legal trainees at Hudgell's law firm on the same salary they are on now for playing rugby at Rovers, and sign 5 aussie internationals as long as you don't breach the cap? People have hinted this is sort of what happened to Hicks at Warrington, my point being is there a limit on de and re registration numbers as long as you're not re-signing in the same season?

Your "point" is mental. Dismissed.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Thought it was a good question, personally. 10 overseas players is mental. Just thought if you really want to "push the envelope" (great management Naughty-RW  term IMO), why make it easy for the RFL and limit the scope to the squad defined at the start of the season? Why not de-register at will and sign up loads of new quota players, maybe exchanging some of them for further new ones mid season. If you don't break the cap, and can afford to pay these players via, say, directors' other companies, why not? I admit it's very hypothetical, but rover49 made a good point and I'm just taking it to another level.

Attempting to get back on topic for fear of the lovely Roverwall and his red fontage, I didn't know Rovers also tried and failed to get Jake Webster off the quota. Is this new information?

Its not new information, it's incorrect information. Jake was born in Melbourne, hence his international career with New Zealand!

Rovers have never attempted to revise his quota status.

Got to love the HDM's reporting today, then: "But when the club failed to get either Jake Webster or Ben Galea removed from their overseas quota, he was then told to try to obtain a Tongan passport." Who knows what to believe anymore? Mind you, that's been no different for 8 months.
