I wish I'd said that a few seasons ago! Either let the clock run and don't stop it, or turn it off

very good article. and oops the time keeping gets a mention. but yeh we cocked up mega style sunday. a shout was made that we were 4 out, we thought 4 minutes short so we moved it on 4 minutes, wrong way.

comments have been made to have the clock turned off. what do fans feel, do they like the time on or not. i realise we cant repeat the mistake. i think that maybe we should stop rewinding it if were told its wrong, just keep it running, and at 40, just wipe the time all together, with a message, this isnt the official timekeeping clock.

I'm unsure of what you are you on about.
Are you saying that the total time the game was played was wrong?
Surely not?
I thought that what had happened was that at eighty minutes you turned the clock back the number of minutes of stoppage time, such that when eighty minutes showed again the game was over. That's what happened isn't it?
Perfectly understandable as a solution.

Turning the clock off to me is an absolute no-no.
You should be able to stop that clock and start it at the refs say so and when it says eighty minutes the game is over.
Now if you can't do that, get somebody in to enable you to stop and start that clock.

If not, why can't you announce the stoppage time and restart the clock or let it run, people can add stoppage time to 80 minutes?

Can the clock count backwards?

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

It would seem not as the suggestion is that a mistake was made.

Exactly, we played four minutes too much, I was trying to be tactful  .. does that mean that Workington shouldn't have got a bonus point?
I can't remember how long from the end they scored.

I don't think that we did play too long ... the official timekeepers dictate the playing time. The way I interpret it, the stadium clock was wrong by four minutes for some part of the second half hence the need to adjust it back when it hit 80 mins ... perhaps Rob can confirm though.

The right amount of time was played, with full time signalled by the hooter at the correct time. I had it about right with my watch

The clock can be stopped and started and that is what they are trying to do, it is just obviously not being done right or not enough attention is paid to the ref. I manage to get it right most weeks with the stop watch on my wrist, the stadium clock is just a stop watch with bigger buttons, so I don't understand how it is wrong nearly every time. That's why I say turn it off or let it run, this has been a problem for a few years now.

Indeed

It should also be noted that at most other grounds you can't even see a decent scoreboard let alone a clock counting anything like game time
