Hung by their own petard. Always a favourite.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Hoist.

A petard was a small bomb, not unlike the squib of 'damp' fame.

Perhaps we should play grammarian donkey*...

* A catch game were each mistake saw you get a letter, until the word donkey was spelled (not spelt - that is a type of grain). A bit like killer, for those that play pool.

I wouldn't have thought a small bomb would be the tool of choice for hoisting people. Was this in the days before cherry pickers?

I think hoist has come to mean lift and hold/suspend, but a bomb could at least do the first part. Anybody who can segue back to Eastmond from here deserves a medal.

Do you think Kyle has bombed his chances of getting back in the Saints squad this season?

 I knew that, why did I write it incorrectly?

I'm on "D".
