Yes, we know the reasons behind the de-registration and we've all seen the touching togetherness of Dobson and Hudgell during their increasingly frantic attempts to assure you all that Michael's staying.
I am one hundred percent certain that Dobson means what he says at this moment in time and has every intention of staying at Rovers.
But the fact remains that Rovers have left him in a precarious position. There is
no guarantee that Willie's passport will come and when it does there is
no guarantee that the RFL board will re-register him. Things can go wrong and folk can fall flat on their faces for reasons beyond their control. The crucial thing is this time of limbo while Dobson remains a free agent is dangerous for you.
Take this fabricated scenario:
Riolo rings up Dobbo: "Michael - Saints have rung - they're willing to pay up the rest of your Rovers contract and pay you Eastmond's wages for the rest of the year"
Dobbo: "I don't have a Rovers contract, but they've told me I will again soon and they've paid me a bonus to keep me smiling at Mullet, too."
Rialo: " Michael, a bird in the hand is worth twice as much as what you thought you were getting this year. And for me, this is business, my son".
Dobbo: "But..."
Rialo: " Don't be stupid, I've already warned Neil we're offski when the NRL come calling anyway...."
Dobbo: "Oh, all right, then. But you can pay the bonus back to Neil and tell him."
Rialo: "Nah - we don't even have to do that, you're not contracted to them any more."
