A poster a few week ago indicated he was informed by CP that if he was seen to be taking photographs he would be ejected from the ground, can't say I've ever seen a notice informing fans of this, does it include camera phones? Stewards don't seem to care much.
Anyway - the real reason for this topic is to ask RoversTrace, If she reads this; What camera do you use and do you have it on the standard sports setting or edit a manual setting to suit. I'm just starting out with some amateur photography and can't seem to get it right with moving objects, I'm using a Canon 400d with EF-S 55-250mm.

i suspect if you was using a decent camera like a Cannon 400d the stewards would maybe have a word but if your taking a photo of your favourite player using a phone i guess they turn a blind eye.
Its all down to copy/image rights
If i took a photo with my phone you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between rufus and vella

If you get a written permission letter from the club your okay. Maybe worth giving the club a ring and seeing if permission is possible.

My dad took his camera yesterday - Panasonic FZ38 - and took near on 100 photos during the game. All were of good standard too, and for the record, nobody said anything.

Firstly there are signs saying 'no cameras' at Craven Park and I have been approached several times by stewards and told I can't take photos, fortunately I have a permission slip from the club which says I am, this has been taken away by chief stewards for authentication, so they are quite strict on it too.
Dum-dum, I use a Canon Eos 50d with 55-250 lens, usually set on Shutter Priority (TV) at round about 1/500, upping the ISO if it's a bit overcast or for night matches. Using the sports mode is okay, but you've got a great camera there, get using the more creative settings, you'll see the benefit. If your pics are a bit fuzzy you can always sharpen them a bit using photo editing software - I use Google Picasa, free to download.

Hey thanks guys!
Nice camera Trace, I had a look at those but way out of my price range.
For the record I had no intention to take my camera to CP (yet). I've just got into the whole photography thing hence starting with a 400D and went to my nephews football game to try it out, When I got home and the snaps were hardly better than my camera phone (I'd tried automatic and the sport mode) I figured Trace might be able to help and sure enough here she is, I'll give those settings a try on Saturday and let you know how they go.
I knew that title would grab your attention! Thanks again

Don't know if you have an iphone or ipod dum-dum but there are a couple of good apps for photography on there, give advice on what settings to use in different situations, very good.
Also lots of good websites. I've just signed up to this one:
And of course loads of books and magazines you can consult, I've spent a bomb on books and mags since I started about 4 years ago!

iPhone, can you name the apps or is it against the AUP?
I've been on that site, was reading about light. I'll save it on the laptop when I get home along with those settings up there, I can't wait to give them a try and then alter them to see what the differences are. I had a good look on your flickr account, I hope my pictures look as good one day, don't stop at rugby do you!

Thank you, the rugby was just what got me into the photography, by borrowing someone else's camera, but I really love all the other stuff, would love to get into it more seriously but can't afford to give up the day job!
The apps I have are DSLR Toolkit for Dummies, PhotoCaddy and PhotoTrainer (apologies if that breaks any AUP )
