Came out of Sunday with more credit than most, it sounds like.
Yeah he did well made at least two, maybe three very good defensive plays that involved making good decisions and wrapping man and ball and a couple of astute passes. Unfortunately Fox seems to have decided to jam in on a lot of plays and was badly out of position. He never got a chance of running in broken field, but that can wait for the pitches to firm up.
He did kick well and if iirc whilst over on the wrong side of The Chocolate River's Tributary and got a chance used to over there too.
I'd personally like to see Welham to right centre, Hall to left with Webster moving out to the wing in place of Colbon who just seems to be lacking confidence since breaking his jaw, even his kick returns aren't what they were.
I'd like to see Bell start at scrum half but with him being spelled through a combination of Murrell moving there and Cockayne spelling Hodgson and Murrell. Cockayne put in good big minutes on Sunday, he'd been off about two minutes on Sunday before Murrell took a knock and then he came straight back on. I like Hodgson a lot but at the moment he doesn't seem to have the concentration yet to play as many minutes as we're asking him to.
That's an awful lot of tinkering to say it's only round four, I wouldn't necessarily do all of it, just wanging ideas out willy nilly.
As others have alluded to our major problem (more so than missing Dobson on Sunday for sure) was our inept performance in the front row. Wheldon has been our best prop, and has played well, I don't want to be detrimental towards him, but at fifth in the pecking order that really shouldn't be so. Vella was good in Cardiff but Clinton has been non existent so far and that's not acceptable from the guy who should be leading the line.
