John Assor never played for the club ,he was a South African international at the time i believe, and it was only speculation about his signing for the club

Didn't John Edwards once kick a boat load of drop goals in a game at Belle Vue too and turned the game?

He did indeed. That thought had crossed my mind ... I have a feeling he kicked something like 6.
