I remember watching Everton play (I think it was last season) and the two biggest somebodies they had on their bench were Gosling and Yobo, other than that, your entire bench was reserve players which are, in today's game, basically academy players.
What doesn't make sense is when a manager signs players to have a big squad, but then persists with the same old same old every week.
Yes, I was being naive, but I was also raising the question of why clubs persist in putting themselves into huge debts, paying huge wages to guys who will do little more than jog up and down a touchline all season?
Saddened questioned Moyes' wisdom in selling Yakubu and Vaughan, yet if the 2 players aren't going to be utilised (which its obvious those 2 weren't), then it surely makes perfect sense, especially in today's precarious financial times, to get shut?
As for having a small bench?....Be serious, do you really need a 7 man bench??....I've always thought it was a bit of a joke. If you are going that far, you may as well have a full 11 on the bench, its ridiculous.
And so you aim towards the sky, And you'll rise high today, Fly away, Far away, Far from pain....

We're not scoring and he's loans one of the Premier Leagues most prolific goalscorers out. Vaughan has scored goals in the Championship and should obviously be in ahead of Anichebe who he doesn't play either, other than on the wing in away games.
Saha is made of toast and won't last a month and that leaves us with just Beckford.
Everton's squad is tiny, there is no room to be dropping numbers. What happens if they get 6 or 7 injuries as can happen from time to time?

To be fair, its been nearly 3 years since he was anywhere near prolific....I'm not saying that Moyes has been perfect in his handling of him, or that he won't at some point start hitting the net again, but for me, Yakubu has looked mainly disinterested recently.....He's the classic example of a player who gets a buzz from new surroundings, but once settled at a club, just becomes lazy.
As for Vaughan & Anichibe?.....Neither will ever be prolific at the highest level, but Victor does offer more as an all round player.....His second half performance at Anfield and his showing at City (before being red carded) highlight this.

Very happy with that, always rated him.
Play him in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 with a license to get forward and he could do very well for you. Play him in a 4-4-2 or in the hole in a 4-4-1-1 and it will end in tears.

considering - it was 'soft' and there can only have been the merest of touchs', it does seem fair.
I do realise that Berbatov going down under the merest of touches the other week was a 'dive' though.
But i think i am getting the picture of how it works.
