hearing on Talksport from Martin Allen (QPR,WHU,Pompey etc) who was at the Spurs training ground last week reported that a black Smart Car pulled up at the car park amid the Porsches,BMWs,Jags,Mercs etc who appeared from it,none other than Benoit Assou Ekotto ! Thinking the car was just for fun the presenters ie Allen & Danter etc took the p**s something rotten saying that it must have been a courtesy car cos' the Porsche was in for repair etc anyway, the player phoned in to say it was his actual car,the one he used daily as it was easy & practical to drive around busy London etc Sensible young man or a tight git ?

sensible.
I did some business with a company who used to supply a lot of cars to players back in the late 90s, if they had something new and fancy, they literally just had to drive to a training ground, and the players would come scampering over like kids to the ice cream van, trying to get their first and buy it. I heard conversations where player x would be saying, 'no tell player y to f£ck off, I want it', the players must lose stupid amounts on the depreciation, and the fact they certainly used to get them pimped up like dogs dinners making them virtually unsellable, when the X5 first came out JFH had one that was the frankenstein of the car world, freakish with all sorts of nonsense on it, not to anyone elses in the worlds taste.
to do something sensible is commendable, and he probably gets hammered by his team mates.

couldn't agree more - bet he doesn't give a monkeys about the comments - I recall when Norwich City first went into the big time ie the old 1st Division in the early 70s one of their stalwarts Dave Stringer, who went on to manage the club who lived just around the corner from us in the village stuck with his Hillman Imp whilst all his team mates who were then earning a decent wedge went for the Ford Granadas,Jags etc He had /still has a swish house but the memory of the rusty old Imp in the driveway will never leave me.
Everton are either leaving it very late or in a worse financial mess than I thought. To go into a transfer window stating you need to strengthen and then sell 3 players who could be considered first teamers and not signing anyone is a tad silly.

Saw an interview with him about a year ago where he said he had very little time for the circus that follows modern day football. Seemed like he had his feet firmly on the ground and his head screwed on with comments like football isn't a real job and players get paid far too much.

Sensible by a mile.
Science flies people to the moon. Religion flies people into buildings.
According to Sid Lowe on Twitter (Guardian football journalist who lives & works in Spain) "Pennant, the truth: he left car for 3 wks, then from UK phoned a co. that collected it for him and left at garage at his Zarag house."

But when faced with truth or legend - always print the legend
"I didn't see Risman, Todd or Watkins in red vests.
I saw a bit of Steve Gibson and Blakely at his best.
Now I'm watching Alker lead us on against the rest,
As the Reds go marching on ...... "
