Or a Move to Wing (Which is the reason I think Goulding has secured his spot in the team not the Loan to Salford).

I'm not so sure Goulding would be playing week in week out and avoiding criticism if he'd had to play 30 games at centre!

Pemps, Do you have another one of those vests?

Make it two.

It'll be like Piggy re-incarnated if Pryce comes good this season.

Has he signed a new contract? Club seem very quiet about it. :)

This could well be Carmont's last at Wigan and we need a quality replacement.
Yesterday though both Joel and Josh played in the 3 position at some point in the game so perhaps Gleeson isn't as near to fitness as we think. Marsh may have played there as well although that was a change I missed if it did happen.

I don't rate Goulding as a centre as he seems more of a finisher than a creator, plus who plays wing if he moves to centre? I think next year we'll run out something like:

1 Roberts
2 Goulding
3 Gleeson
4 Pryce/Charnley
5 Richards
6 Sam

Two people playing in the position may be more to do with Maguire saying no one would play 80 minutes, two people played every position.

Going off his first team preformences the lad is never a centre in a million years. He never looks up and very rairly passes the ball. He looks a winger for all money for me and maybe going forward he can develope in that position.

Hopefully it's just been nerves so far but he's struggled without doubt.

My biggest concern with Joel playing centre would be his decision-making. He has all the physical attributes to be a top drawer centre but we've all seen him make a line break and then come up with a bone-headed play that costs us a certain try. If he's out at centre with the way we play he's going to find himself in the position where he has to decide whether to stick hold or pass a lot more often and he would need to be getting those decisions right

Goulding deserves to keep the wing spot. Depending how Charnley shapes up this year he could be the one pushing for a centre spot next year. Weve got to remember gleese has probably got 3 years at best left in his career. Joel, I think, could be primed for a centre position, we have so many options in the back row !

I think Joel at Centre could work, both in terms of him as a player and disciplinary-wise. He wouldnt be involved in making as many tackles, which is where he gives away a lot of his penalties, laying on, messing about at the play the ball etc. Hes definitely got the physical attributes and the pace and hes got decent hands anyway. Would be good to have a big physical Centre like what a lot of the aussie ones are. Also moving Joel out of the second row gives other players a chance because at the minute I couldnt pick one who doesnt deserve a place in the 17 every week.

I am wondering if this is not so much a full time move to centre but more a Phil Bailey type role where Joel could switch to centre to cover for injuries during a game (or even as an attacking ploy). I know this has happened at times but by training more with the backs he would be more effective in this case and it would mean being able to maintain an all forward subs bench.

So you can't criticise the guy for his performances - which have been spot on - but you have a go at him on a hypothetical basis.

Would Pat have been as effective at centre?
Would Offiah have been as effective at centre?
Would Goulding be critised if he had turned in 22 months of average performances as Amos Roberts has done?

Some players (usually the non star names) just can't win.
