Well, how to summarise this series??......
It has been simply astonishing. IIRC most people on here (including myself) thought England would be good enough to maybe sneak away with a drawn series or possibly a victory by the odd test to retain the urn. A 3 v 1 series win is convincing enough but does not really tell the whole story of how dominant England have been and how utterly $hit Australia have been!
To win 3 test matches by an innings and some in Australia is just unheard of. Only once have a touring team won by an innings twice, to do it 3 times sets new, unparralelled standards. The series has set all sorts of new run scoring/partnership records, Jimmy Anderson's haul of wickets is the best by an England bowler for half a century and the bowling stats for the series in general are excellent. Ian Bell has only batted 6 times coming in at number 6, having played all 5 test matches, which again is astounding.
Congratulations must go to Andy Flower and the back room people for the preperation and build up of the tour, the whole thing has been one big success story from start to finish (barring a small blip in Perth
)
Onwards to Adelaide and Melbourne for the T20 games........
