Robbie Rotten wrote:Deary deary me. Beckham has a great long, cross-field ball, but Modric has one of the best short passing games out of any player in the league. In terms of true creativity and vision, only Silva and Fabregas better him IMO. Beckham really isn't so great, he will forever live off his reputation, but he's not been at the top level for years now.

Spoken like a true Liverpudlian. Beckham isn't so great? don't be daft, you've got a good knowledge of the game mate and you know better than that. Beckham has always had a wonderful vision passing and shooting (his goal v Wimbledon was stunning vision). His long range passing was/is as good as anyone's in the game, very few could be put ahead of him, his short passing, crossing and free kick's are as good as anyone's who's played the game and still is. Modric is around 25 now? Beckham's ability on the ball at 25 was easily as good and for me, still is. Your ability doesn't just disappear, his legs will not his ability.

Robbie Rotten wrote:As for Dan's 'don't get how it would affect the squad'. It's simple, if Spurs have a great team chemistry working and their players are gelling a real 'group' mentality, the last thing they need is some huge fish coming in and stealing all of the limelight. It sounds daft, but if everything's going well, why spoil it for a four month fix of a player who is well past his best, a player that struggled with the tempo of Serie A games last year? It only makes sense from a commercial point of view, but Spurs really shouldn't be distracting themselves with drivel like that in the middle of the club's most pivotal season.

I don't see this with Beckham though, he's not the big ego type. We all know he'll be followed everywhere by the press but that's not his doing, they do that and always will but he's not going to come in and act like the big fish. he'll come in and do a job when required and could there be anyone better for Spurs' youngesters to train with than someone with his ability and experience.

You say it yourself, he had great ability, he doesn't have that anymore. Ability is one thing, the ability to play the game another. Beckham no longer has the engine to get up and down the flank, or, if he was played in midfield, to be involved in midfield scraps.

Give him the ball to his feet and let him pick a spot, yes, he can do that, but there's so much more to the game than that, aspects that he needs to go with his ability in order to 'work', aspects he no longer has and cannot regain.

Still, even after all of that, I think Modric has a far superior short game to Beckham, Modric is a fabulous player at linking play and crafting things out, I just don't think Beckham can do that.

Robbie Rotten wrote:Of course ability should be questioned. Beckham was distinctly average in his last loan spell at Milan, playing in a league that is completely ability-dependent, he shown that he's getting to the age where he can't consistently pull off what he used to. Ronaldinho is the same, only it's his body that has aged more. He has more ability than Beckham at pretty much every aspect of the game, but even that's not enough for him to get by in Europe anymore.

Was he not injured when he played for Milan though? or have I dreamt that? He's not going to walk into Spurs' starting lineup but used as an impact player and that could work. Ronaldinho's suffered a lot of off field issues though, he's piled on weight at times, he left Barca because he was always going out on the ale and partying constantly that's had a major impact on his slide in top level football.

Robbie Rotten wrote:Spurs simply don't need a Beckham, other than experience, he'd bring nothing to them. Whilst I'm not saying he himself would destroy team spirit, the sole attention on him and the mass wankfest he'd create could be disruptive to a settled squad with good harmony.

That's obviously something we wouldn't know until/if it happened. I can see where you're coming from but I'd be surprised if Spurs' players let it get too them that much it destroyed their team spirit. I don't see that happening but we'd only know if he signed.

Robbie Rotten wrote:To be honest, I hope Spurs do get him, as they'd be better off if they never bothered, IMO.

Possibly but possibly not, we'd only know if he signed on that one.

Just as I was utterly delighted that the scousers signed Joe Cole, I'll be delighted if Spurs bring in Beckham on a short term deal.

But to be honest if Spurs do sign Beckham it'll be on a short term contract and they won't be expecting miracles like Liverpool were off Cole. If it works, like it do for us with Donovan, great if not he's only around until early March it'll be no big issue for me.

Tottenham are in 4th place right now, Chelsea are 5th. Tottenham aren't needing a miracle, they aren't expecting Beckham to be better than Messi  , any boost that they can get from Beckham would help Spurs and screw us up.

I want Beckham to sign for Spurs.

That's exactly what I was saying Spurs don't need a miracle so if Beckham signs and it doesn't work out it's not loss and won't leave a massive impact on them whereas when Liverpool signed Cole they were relying on him for big things and he hasn't delivered.

These short term loan deals can work, it did for us.

Decent blog about Beckham and his questionable contribution to LA Galaxy.

I'd say it's about time he gave something back to his actual employers.

Nope - not that United anyway and, from my club's point of view, any player that would be signing to help a club in a top four battle would be the last of our concerns.

I am a Spurs fan and would welcome Becks with open arms and 'Arry could get the best out of an experienced campaigner plus the inspiration and boost he would give the younger lads at the club - commercially brilliant move by The Y*ds with Mr Levy just thinking about all those lovely shirt sales etc...
Game wise,to say he is as good a passer as Luca or big Tom is a joke - for the two months he could transform the team into a top-four cert rather than possible top four,if he is match (Premiership) fit
