There's nothing odd or disturbing about it, I can't see how Spurs could lose out in this?

Sorry, but Modric is a far better passer of the ball than Beckham, whilst I could make a strong argument that Huddlestone is better, too.

The commercial impact is good, yes, but the last things Spurs need are distractions. They've got a great squad playing great football, they should just stay focused on winning games, without the added drivel that Beckham brings.

Looking at Spurs' squad, they have a great set of players in pretty much every position, whilst bringing Beckham back to England would be romantic, he was looking off the pace at his last loan in Serie A, there's just no way he has the legs to keep up in England, particularly with Spurs' favoured counter-attacking styled.

David Beckham is worth signing by any club in the world. Doesn't matter how good he is or isn't (I reckon he's still pretty good to be fair to him, but perhaps better suited to the continent than to huffing and puffing with the Blackpool and Blackburn's of this world) the financial impact of signing Mr Beckham cannot be underestimated.

For four or five months?

Are you having a giraffe? Modric's distribution is nowhere near the quality of Beckham, especially the long/cross-field or diagonal ball. Huddleston has a decent long or diagonal ball, but neither of them could get anywhere near the accuracy of Beckham, nowhere near - on long or short passing!

Completely disagree tbh mate, Beckham is a much better passer of the ball than Modric, as for Huddleston   those words shouldn't even be put in the same sentence. As I said, Beckham is one of the best distributors of the ball ever to play the game, every team could do with some who can play a ball as well as Beckham can.

It's not Beckham's fault he's surrounded by press wherever he goes though. I don't really see how it would distract Spurs' players if Beckham is appearing in papers and on TV quite often, I've never got this excuse when it goes wrong for teams. It's just a myth for me.

Spurs do have a great squad and have every position covered which is why Beckham would be more of an impact player off the bench. Who better to play a ball in to Crouch or hit a free kick goalwards than Beckham, no one in Spurs' squad could dream of hitting a free kick like Beckham. Was he not carrying injuries when he played for Milan though? He's one of the fittest footballers around in his age group, he'd easily be able to keep up with football in the Premier League.

Deary deary me. Beckham has a great long, cross-field ball, but Modric has one of the best short passing games out of any player in the league. In terms of true creativity and vision, only Silva and Fabregas better him IMO. Beckham really isn't so great, he will forever live off his reputation, but he's not been at the top level for years now.

The only thing Beckham would bring to Spurs would be experience, they don't need a set piece taker, they don't need someone who can cross, they don't need someone who can pass, they don't really need a showbiz boost for four months, they just need to get on with how they're playing, with any player coming in being someone they can rely on in the future, not for a few months.

As for Dan's 'don't get how it would affect the squad'. It's simple, if Spurs have a great team chemistry working and their players are gelling a real 'group' mentality, the last thing they need is some huge fish coming in and stealing all of the limelight. It sounds daft, but if everything's going well, why spoil it for a four month fix of a player who is well past his best, a player that struggled with the tempo of Serie A games last year? It only makes sense from a commercial point of view, but Spurs really shouldn't be distracting themselves with drivel like that in the middle of the club's most pivotal season.

Dan FC, I thought, with you being an Evertonian, you'd be able to recall the Ginola/Gazza era and the fantastic impact that on Everton??....

Yes, Beckham may be a lot fitter than those two were, but match fit??.....I could understand a Blackburn or Bolton taking him on for commercial impact, but Tottenham??....For 9 games max??

As others have said, he would be a distraction they don't need, for little reward.....Personally, I see West Ham having a punt with him.

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,

'David Beckham Goals, Passes + Assists 1998/1999'

granted that is a long time ago - but watch that and tell me Modric and Huddlestone are better

  Funily enough we were only discussing these two playing for us in work today. I remember it all too well, players on the very wrong end of their careers when we signed them. I remember Gazza destroying Leyton Orient in FA Cup and Ginola coming off the bench against Arsenal, I think his first appearance, and hitting the post with a 25 yard free kick. For me, yes, Beckham will be match fit, as I said previously he's someone who's always been in the peak of fitness during his career and he'd easily cope in PL, tbh if he wasn't I don't think he'd bother. I still don't agree he'd be a distraction, of course he'd get the media hype but he's not a player with a big ego that's going to walk in and upset things by any means. His experience will be invaluable to Spurs and his ability should never be questioned.

Of course ability should be questioned. Beckham was distinctly average in his last loan spell at Milan, playing in a league that is completely ability-dependent, he shown that he's getting to the age where he can't consistently pull off what he used to. Ronaldinho is the same, only it's his body that has aged more. He has more ability than Beckham at pretty much every aspect of the game, but even that's not enough for him to get by in Europe anymore.

Spurs simply don't need a Beckham, other than experience, he'd bring nothing to them. Whilst I'm not saying he himself would destroy team spirit, the sole attention on him and the mass wankfest he'd create could be disruptive to a settled squad with good harmony.

To be honest, I hope Spurs do get him, as they'd be better off if they never bothered, IMO.
