What exactly is meant by a player being a true freshman ?

Science flies people to the moon. Religion flies people into buildings.

I took it to mean he's a young guy with all the talent and ability in the world but is still very raw and makes those mistakes that Freshmen make.

I could be wrong though.

Sometimes when a player starts college they sit out their freshman year which is called redshirting. If they play football in their first year then they're a true freshman

The only reason he's in contention this year is because he's lead a load of misfits to the verge of the playoffs. People like Blair White and Jacob Tamme would have seen barely any action all year, Manning has made them look like decent NFL players this year!

He's carried the entire Colts offence on his own!

Don't bother mate. The Pats fans say they don't care about the MVP awards etc because they win Superbowls but duly go on and on about Manning all the time. Cancel the award for the next few years, it's got Bradford written all over it

MVP is a nothing award really though isn't it? What's so great about an award for one person on the team when there's a Lombardi to be won.

Misfits like Benjarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead? both QB's are great and can make any receiving corp look good.

Why do you and LFC continually bang on about it and Manning's victories then? It's not a nothing award. It is terribly biased towards QB's but it's still a hell of an achievement. Has Peyton Manning deserved all his victories, probably not but it's a QB league and he's a very popular player. Ray Lewis should have won it the season the Ravens won the SB but he was overlooked as he's a defensive player.

Nothing award, no. Poorly awarded, yes. It might as well be most valuable QB.

Which is why OPOTY and DPOTY are better suited awards imo, the MVP should be renamed something else and used exclusively for QB's, putting it on par with and leaving OPOTY and DPOTY for the outstanding seasons of other players who don't get the recognition deserved with the MVP award.
