the O/P is meant to be about stuture, big names who are held in high regard. but as has been stated plenty have come here as nobodys and done very well for themselves.
Brett Dallas at Wigan is another big name Player. Greg Eastwood, current international

To be fair, when he finally got fit, Eastwood looked the dog's dangly bits at Leeds, easily their best forward. A loss to SL with him leaving.

yeah Stacey Jones is a another for the list, not sure the others belong on the list of BIG names though, Greg Bird was more famous for his bottling incident than his rugby IMO.

Greg Bird is one of the best overseas players in SL since its inception.., i thought he was the best player in the league when he was here, and his performances were all the more exceptional given the circumstances and the jetting to and from Australia...his single handed almost beating of susbsequent champs Leeds in the play offs was a joy to watch..
No surprise he got his SOO and Australia shirts back immediately on returning...
If you could get him and his mate Paul Gallen at Craven Park together silverware would be almost guaranteed....

I don't think anyone is questioning his performances for the Dragons, but the OP is talking more about reputations PRIOR to entering SL. Bird had a huge reputation off the pitch which was the main reason he ended up in the South of France instead of West Yorkshire.

TBF i don't think Rovers have had any overseas players of that stature (which i think is what the o/p is on about) as of yet in the SL era, at least until Big Willie arrives
Spot on with Swain and Kearney. Also Richie Barnett Snr. Jason Smith too. All internationals.

just a thought but maybe the big signings don't quite live up to reputation because the players around them aren't as good, ie a halfback can influence a lot of a game but if the others aren't running good lines his passing might not look as good as it did in oz and that doesn't mean his vision or reading of the game isn't what it was, its the difference in players around him. Maybe, maybe not??
David Peachey for Widnes, although not sure if he played with Widnes in SL or in NL1, anyhow he played the odd City vs Country, NSW and Aussie National game!

NL1, but was absolute dog muck, got injured and fecked off home.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Absoloutely, however by some of the posts made on this thread I got the impression the title thread should be changed to top named signings who have flopped!
