Just read SkySports_Simon post on Twitter stating that Shane Warne is 12/1 at Ladbrokes to play in the 3rd test at Perth. Talk about desperate!

They've started a massive campaign over there to talk him out of retirement. Even in commentary when Bumble asked him, he didn't rule it out as such.

Stranger things have happened.

41 years old, two years removed from his last first class cricket and four years from his last Test....

God I hope they pick him, even if it's just so we can point and laugh at how far Australian cricket has fallen.

Apart from Hughes for Katich, they could well be unchanged for the third Test. Ponting reckons it wasn't personnel that was the issue and the players they picked just didn't perform.

Given the Australian captain isn't involved in squad selection, I would have loved to hear what he said when they gave him Doherty instead of Hauritz.

It would take at least 2 tests to gain any amount of sharpness, bring him in i say, it would be the final nail in the coffin.

It's been fun.

I think Ponting wanted Xavier due to him being Tasmanian?

given the retro feel of names being banded about, is that Hughes Merv?

I believe Punter wanted Doherty.

Sounds more like Kim Hughes if it's for Katich.

Well Geoff Boycott said on the commentary that if this is the state of the Aussie bowling he might come out of retirement because he fancies a few runs on these nice batting tracks.

I'm surprised the press missed that one, they could have headlined the back page with BOYCOTT HINTS AT TEST COMEBACK.

They could mike him up, he could still do commentary between overs or when he was at the non strikers end. He could tell us about how important it was to build an innings and not get distracted if you're bogged down and the fielders are trying to create pressure. Make the bowler get you out don't get yourself out. Big stride forward that's the key.
