The Salary Cap Year starts on 1st December. We're already in the 2011 SC year. I guess the payoff must have been entered on the books and registered with the RFL by 30th November and so counted on last year's cap.
Bit of a surprise that they had that much cap left unspent last season.

Yeah - I wish we made big losses and relied on one man for our very existence.

I dont think Agars seemingly never-ending time in charge is down to the board wanting to save money, think its a deeper problem that their whole philosophy re the coaching staff is seriously flawed,.
Jimmy Rule has said to me himself that he doesn't think who the coach is is that important for achieving success as long as we have a good squad in place. This is really worrying and I told him so but he laughed it off.
Also, every time a manager leaves a club in any sport ex-pros are wheeled out in the media to tell us that managers need more time than they get, stability breeds success and inevitebly bring up the Alex Ferguson example of not winning trophies in his first few years at utd. Jimmy seems to have adopted this line of thinking hook line and sinker but in the process forgetting that while giving someone time is all well and good, he needs to be the right man in the first place.

But we all know it's inevitable that if they keep splashing their cash and buying quality players that they will.
You have only won 2 trophies, in as many years, since the money has been rolling in. Before this, you were hardly the 'force' in RL which you are now. Is there any wonder why people are questioning your cap?

I would guess that Hicks has retired now, and some / all of his wages for the 2011 season have been paid to him. Because this payment has been made after 1st December, it falls in the 2011 cap year. But it doesn't count towards the 2011 cap, because Hicks won't actually play in the 2011 season. A player's wages only count towards the cap if he plays a first team game in that year. Probably.
