Now that really would be fantastic.

iirc Hull FC are also 'working in partnership with the NHS'. This was to have been at the Boulevard but I think alternative plans are now in place. Perhaps a Hull FC fan could fill in the details? The figure I've seen bandied about for this was £700k, though that may have changed as the plans have evolved (or was probably not accurate in the first place, as I probably got it off here :D )

I know, I just like poking Ranga with a stick.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Can anybody confirm this? I thought there was meant to be a press embargo in place until after the council cabinet meeting had announced its decision.

From memory (so probably factually incorrect) Hull agreed a deal with the council to take the boulevard off them to use as a training facility. As part of the deal the NHS agreed to put 700k in for a drop in centre etc. Hull KR kicked up a fuss at this and secured themselves 300k.

At the last minute following all agreements been put in place Hull City Council backed out of the deal with Hull FC in favour of building an Academy on the boulevard site. The Academy plan has now been shelved due to funding problems and Hull FC are looking at other options.

Does that sound right? :)

Sorry, not worded clearly. What would be the impact in the local area if they didnt have this facility?

The way that i would be approaching this project from a local authority point of view would be to look at the benefit that the local area would get versus cash spent and then see whether the development is classed as essential currently or whether it's just 'nice to have'

All non-essential builds should be stopped currently imo. Is this really essential is what i'm trying to say based on the local impact on the area of having an NHS centre?

It is difficult for me to look at this in an unbiassed way. Just assume I've written my usual one-eyed logic-twisting, partisan nonsense. I need to go find a sock! :)

Great that you are finally getting a new stand but I echo whats already been said on here about the economic climate at the moment. My husband will be pleased that he has a 2 year pay freeze and the threat of redundancy hanging over his head but the Council are using £4.2m of public money that could possibly save some redundancies and give HCC workers their 2% cost of living rise for this year. Its just been reported on Look North that the Council need to save so many million this year and it has been suggested that Hull Truck may have to close and Museums will only open 3 days a week. The new plans for Orchard Park have also been shelved which admittidly is Central Government but there are going to be some very angry Hull Citizens over the spending on your stand.

Not a case of sour grapes or jealously by the way, just don't think now is the right time for the Council to be spending that sort of money.

My Wife also works for the council, she is also under threat of redundancy, and subject to a pay freeze. However, she is over the moon with this news, and would gladly lose her job as a small sacrifice to ensure the future of Hull Kingston Rovers.

A real trooper is my wife!

For "angry citizens" read "Hull FC fans" :ROCKS:

Actually I'm quite pleased about it. Should finally put paid to all this 'we make our own way with no handouts' bollox that gets regularly spouted by Rovers fans. :)
