Yet still Hull only kept him because they missed out on their front row targets and decided at the 11th hour that there was nobody else on the market.

Also quite convieniant that you failed to mention that Dowes played more games then all those barring Watts who played Loose Forward for most of the year.

Hilarious. You single out Dowes as a player of the level of Mills, and openly mock his tackle bust ratio as an embarrassment. Tell you what, let's take into account games played then. Read it and weep:

Dowes 15 in 25 = 0.60 per game
Clinton 13 in 23 = 0.57 per game
Watts 14 in 26 = 0.54 per game
Wheeldon 9 in 22 = 0.41 per game
Netherton 8 in 24 = 0.33 per game

Hardly suprising.
1 more bust than Liam but Dowes had taken the ball up 24 more times but Liam has off loaded 17 more times which if I was you I would be worried about.
2 more than Clinton but Dowes has taken the ball up 40 more times but Joel has made more over 150 meters more which if I was you I would be worried about.
7 more than Netherton but Dowes has taken the ball up 141 more times (clearly Jason Netherton is a poor comparision to any normal person)
6 more that Wheeldon but Dowes has taken the ball up 129 more times (clearly Scott Wheeldon is a poor comaprision to any norma person)
And lets not forget that apart from Liam Watts the LF Dowes has played more games than all of them
The point I am making is that you can make stats say anything if you look enough.

I'm not claiming that Dowes is a great prop. GML picked him out as an embarrassment, very specifically in the tackle bust department. Fact is, even as 5th choice workhorse (ie non impact) prop, his tackle busts per game are better than most Rovers props. Bring other elements of the game into it if you like, but that's irrelevant to GML singling out Dowes' alleged ineffectiveness as a tacklebuster when, in comparison, he compares favourably to Clinton, Watts, Netherton and Wheeldon. Strange he not laughing at them, particularly when you consider Clinton was the highest paid forward at the Broncos, yet breaks fewer tackles than a no-mark like poor Dowes.
