The LCC is raising this issue to "test the water" so to speak over the possibility of developing their side too. Especially with the recent investment to the M62 if we are successful the LCC will be able to push for parity on their side.
But as I've stated before i think the con-dem's will be more willing to listen to a fellow Tory council who are proposing economic developments that align with those of Westminster over a Labour council that sought to stick the knife into the back of government and their economic policies at the earliest available opportunity (re: Mr Wakefield and his claims of LCC ruin 23/10/10).

Wakefield is in Labour control, as now is Leeds again, but your point is well made in that it has cross party support in Wakefield and the Tory's in Wakefield MDC are in favour of the development and that counts hugely in favour of this application.
I think Alec Shelbrooke MP may be regretting his decision to stay involved with this one against general advice for MP's to stay out of planning disputes! He is going to have his first egg on face moment I suspect!
