I never thought Rooney was the type to back down so quickly, unless that's what he always planned to do. Perhaps he is so thick skinned that he was prepared to take all of the flak he's received in the last couple of days to get an extra £50k per week? Perhaps he's just being playing hardball and is happy to let Fergie be seen as winning the battle as long as he gets the contract he wants?

No the difference is that you're a Liverpool fan and so are hardly looking at this dispassionately enough to see that the 2 occurences are pretty much identical.

I reckon they sat down, told Rooney how long Fergie was going to manager for, then told them that Jose will be manager after him and money will be available. Job done.
