He wasn't fit, mate. He'd been injured a long time and part of the reason for us getting a good deal is that Wakefield wanted to see how he went.
Another of our late players is a good candidate too. Not many will remember him - "Dallas" Donnelly. Played about half a game for us in 1985. Came highly recommended - ex-Test player for Australia, played with the Magpies for many years, but just too long in the tooth. Also, he wanted a boat-load of money in expenses as he was living in Southend at the time. He was found dead in the surf in Australia. Apparently had a heart attack whilst out for a run.
