Yes, that's what everyone thought. How well I recall the posts at the time .... "Let's play Barlow - Aston won't do anything about it." How wrong we all were.

Yes i fully intended to look it up when i had the time, unfortunately we had a death in the family just afterwards and begging you pardon if i forgot because of that.
Bottom line is Barlow signed a contract saying he couldnt play against Sheffield in 2010, then he did, he broke his own agreement. It really is that simple.
When you were holding out the begging pot in 2006 against Whitehaven i gave up my Sunday and £13 to come and watch what was supposed to be your last ever game.
Anyway Griff seems to have taken this up and he is much much higher up the food chain than me, he's forgotten more about RL that most of us know. You would do well to listen.

Surely you have had time to look these rules up - you posted this ages a go

Love you too.
Seriously, I'm not going to get involved in a slanging match but some of the Halifax fans' attitude on this is nothing short of pathetic. The fact that some of you see it as some sort of victory is simply laughable, and the above comment about hoping we lose gate receipt money is one of the most ironic statements I've ever read given Fax's recent history. Just try and be a bit more humble, as has been previously said, you won the grand final and all credit must go to Fax for that, but off the pitch your season has been plagued by problem after problem, story after story, and as much as you'd lie to convince yourselves otherwise you are not completely innocent.

I would like to point out to these people that in 2006 Halifax were very close to liquidation and Rugby League supporters nationwide helped out by visiting Fax for their home games. I amongst other Sheffield Eagles supporters did this more than once, so to read these comments makes me very angry, but will not deter me from supporting my own club when they play in Halifax next season. Grow up and get on with watching and supporting Rugby League.
Once again the point is missed. I am a rugby league supporter and if Sheffield were in financial dire straights and needed a helping hand, I would contribute to a collection every single time, as I would if any other club needed the same, however in this instance it is completely different.
Someone else said, how would we feel if the boot was on the other foot, well the boot has well and truly been on the other foot many times for halifax (Micky Higham, Brad Davies etc) and did we go bleeting to the press.. No....
I have always said that we should not have played him, I think we could have still done the job without him, but I am not on the coaching team and perhaps we couldnt have done the job if we only had 16 players to play, who knows.
But we did, it was okayed by the RFL, so played him we did.
That should have either been the end of it, or we should have called Aston, and Sheffields bluff and told them to go swivel.
I dont know exactly how much Halifax have paid Sheffield, but whatever it was it was too much.
The decision not to go to Bramall lane next season is a personal one and one I fully intend to stick to.

How were the Mickey Higham and Brad Davies cases the same as Sam Barlow's ?

That's exactly what Halifax did. But Sheffield weren't bluffing.
I still don't get your point. You just come across as "We're Halifax so we can do as we like".
Are there no sensible Halifax supporters posting on this site ?

1. Higham and Davies are not exactly the same. I was just pointing out that Halifax has been on the wrong end of contract issues that have caused us similar feelings, only we did not deal with this by shouting it in the media.
2. No Halifax didnt do that, by paying you off means that we didnt call your bluff, but whats done is done.
3. We do not believe we can do exactly what we want. I do, like others have said, believe that these kind of contracts should be outlawed, by law, as they impose a restriction of work upon a person.
4. I've done now. I have had enough moaning and whinging now. We shall just have to agree to disagree. The only facts in the matter are that he played and Halifax have accepted Moral wrongness and coughed up an undisclosed amount.
We all have our own feelings on the matter, which is now done, and how we personally deal with this is down to our conciences.
I wish Sheffield no particular harm, and, as a Yorkshire club, I hope you do very well next season (except when you play Halifax).
i am baffled as to why halifax fans seem to think they think they are better than fans of any other club?? grow up. Atthe end of the day we are rugby league fans, halifax fans arent acting the was fans of rugby league should. stop belittling others, just support your club.
