I have just done a little research (yes I have nothing better to do  ) and most comments I have read seem to think he is a average backup utility player.

Thats not to say he won't make a good SL player though.

Isn't everyone we sign?

Did you get rid of all the voices in your head? Do you now miss them and the things that they said?

I don't know about the "poor showing in big games" statement but his defence this season has been far superior to that of 2009 and being the sole play maker (virtually) he has been an easy target for attackers to run at. In fact many clubs have based their game plan on doing just that to nullify him as an attacking threat, not leaving much of a cutting edge to the Rovers attack.

He hasn't stood out to me as being the obvious weak link in defence that he was last season.

Larry Billey wrote:Possibly true, but a sad indictment of SL and Rovers ambition all the same...Green is obviously never going to make it in Aus, he is being cut adrift by his third club midway through his contract at 24.., Rovers have signed him in the hope that he will be revitalised by a change in surroundings and be a decent SL player...

Obviously therefore JM rates the English game as somewhat inferior to the NRL for him to hope this, and also cannot really be looking for success by signing a player he "hopes" can make it in this country...perhaps Wigans ominous signs of short term dominance have caused JM to admit defeat in trophy ambitions for a season or two..

Dobson, although very good at what he does in attack (particularly kick) and a prolific points scorer, will never be a medal winning half back due to his major deficiencies in defence and his general poor showing in "big" games.., something i believe JM is fully aware of.., Greens winning ratio is extremely poor.., he is not a "winner" per se.., if Rovers were serious at having a tilt.., having got together a decent enough pack (minus a genuine class hooker), then surely the next step would be a half back of the highest winning mentality..???., together with a some quality in the 1-5 shirts.., not a half back who "might " be "decent" to go alongside a good player, but one who cant take the next step...

I hope i am wrong but i think another it is going to be a season or two (depending on next years ins and outs) of nearly but not quite and what might have been...and unless the crop of youngsters coming through are as good as everybody hopes , we may have missed our boat.., we have had a golden window of a very poor FC side for a few seasons now, i cannot imagine that will continue ad-infinitum.., other Yorkshire clubs are looking to re-build.., Rovers will face a battle to get the best youngsters signed unless we can provide an enticing enviroment....and we will eventually not have the luxury of ten overseas players to flesh out our squad...interesting times for a lot of people...

A bit harsh, all that. Rovers did OK this year and Green should be better than the multitude of fillers-in at 6 that partnered Dobson. Bigger HB issue for Rovers IMO would be who covers for Dobson, an ever-present this year, should he actually miss a game. Rovers pack with the addition of Mason looks pretty good, particularly if Watts continues on his current trajectory. Not sure about the backs, who all seemed to click in 2009 but whose form generally speaking was more patchy this year, but Webster being available should help. The problem in terms of challenging is that Wigan, Warrington and Leeds have better squads and trophy-winning coaches, leaving the rest of us trying to play catch-up but being ill-equipped to do so.

"Green should be better than the multitude of fillers-in at 6 that partnered Dobson"

Whilst it should be a given that he is better than JMs last seasons mind blowing first choice of Jake Webster (a decision many of the disciples thought was a good one at the time..???)., it will be interesting to see if in fact he is an improvement on Scott Murrell, who had an excellent second half of the season at stand off, verified by his England call up..Green is not exactly pacey himself so i am struggling to see (from limited games but enough to form an opinion), what extra he is bringing to the party that Scott doesnt have.., especially given the various factors of quota spot, length of tie-in, cost , and if it leaves Murrell as a spare part...., perhaps JM will utilise Green elsewhere than stand off..perhaps he is a possible for hooker/stand off/loose forward utility...hang on..?? isnt that Scott Murrells role...??

The signing just sort of puzzles me as we baulked at signing the world best stand off for a season that would probably have transformed the club and look to a bit part player to solves our supposed woes at half back.., when to me the reason we progressed no further is due to woes else where in the team..

And yes Mrs B , Rovers did do ok last year..much better than it looked at one stage , no qualms from me at all..., just trying to look past the spin and into reality...if we challenge for fourth i shall be a happy man..

Whether Green turns out to be a good acquisition remains to be seen, I'm in no position to start comapring him to Scott Murrell, as, like many on here I have never seen him play.

As with all signings, his worth to the team will be a function of delivery v salary. I have no idea what we are paying him (although I invite a multitude of posters to tell me its far too much for an NRL reject!).

Hopefully he will be quality, and perhaps between him & Murrell, we might get half back cover for Dobbo, who not only was ever present in 2010, but has not missed a single game since sigining in May 2008. He can't remain indestructable forever!

On Saturday it will be 6 weeks since Mason was announced, so his visa must be imminent (if not already approved). Maybe there'll be a joint "unveiling" so to speak in the next few days.

Blake Green was signed well before Mason and has only just got his approved. Be a good few weeks yet i feel.

I think you can be more optimistic. According to the Home Office, currently after 40 days the % of applications processed is well into the 90s:
