The problem is not the brand itself
But the value of it

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

This comes up on a regular basis - re-re-re-branding is not going to change the fortunes of the club, and I seem to remember when it was muted - at board level - a couple of seasons back, the vast majority of punters said leave well alone, as most people are used to the moniker by now.
And does anyone else find it laughable that there are posters on here that support the motion to change the name, yet have the Centurions logo as their avatar???
I blame the education system!!

Why doesn't the club just re-brand to our old "Leigh Rugby Football Club" (as used in the first ever programme at Hilton Park), which in my opinion is much more marketable to potential moneymen (inc those abroad) especially with Union becoming more cashed up. It sounds much more authentic and historical.
So your plan is to attract investors who are fooled into thinking Leigh is a Rugby Union club?

What will sky say on the matter? They have Super League and Rugby. The Super League plays what we know as Rugby League however there is very little mention of rugby, and Rugby plays what we know as Rugby Union constantly now refered to as the game of Rugby. I think we should also push the wording ''Founder Members'', however some people only want to go back 15 years.

Can see where you're coming from and, if anything, should be further justification for the Centurions moniker - maybe a little more education on the subject, as you mention, with the name being used as a result of being Northern Union Founder Members.

Very few clubs tags have anything to do with their club or their history. We've been Centurions a long time now and I don't see anything wrong with it.
I do believe the club badge sucks big time, the old one was much better. I'd prefer us just to use the coat of arms and still use the Centurions tag, Wigan do that despite being Warriors.
..... and I'll be standing in the Hilton Park stand, yes that's right I've named the North Stand myself

Are these the few hundred punters that voted and already go, or the many thousands more who don't?

Quite possibly yes, why not? Leigh RFC est 1877(or is it 8?) is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world, and we ought to take great pride in that fact and flaming well market it as such rather than some gobshitey nickname that any new club could use
Its all about utilising fully our heritage in the past and also towards long term positioning (in the unlikely event that the two rugby's ever come together)
By the way "Leigh Rugby Football Club" is not a new name. It was what we were known as for many many years since our founding
