Yeah I think I had the Amiga version, was it a union game where the view was looking down on the pitch? If so you're right, not one of the better ones.
EA Sports Rugby World Cup 95 and Australian Rugby League were good efforts, both had same layout as the early Fifa games (pitch on like a diagonal), could score some great full length tries by getting the ball out quick to the wingers.
Another poor one though was Super League Rugby (I think that was it's name), released on the PC around the time of the first SL season, had some good stuff like real player name (rather then made-up ones like EA Sports were still using at the time) and was kinda cool having Eddie & Stevo commentary, but the players were really cartoonish with huge heads.

Game not very good either really, but was fun to play for a little bit.
