His defence is erratic though, he makes a lot of tackles but also misses a great deal too, if we miss more than we make against the best international sides then we wont stand a chance. If we take someone just for their kicking game then why leave out Brough? His defence is questionable and he is very light but his kicking game is not far off world class.

Watts certainly isn't ready for this level but he is certainly in need of the experience, only can we afford to take a passenger when our back division are already pretty much passengers???

Widdop has been playing in the halfs hasn't he? So where do England put him? Do we put Tomkins in at full back and throw Widdop in at 6?

I must ask though is Myler really at this standard? His coach saw fit to leave him out of a big game and may well do the same again, if he isn't ready for Wembley or Old Trafford is he ready for a big international tournament? I personally hope Eastmond is fit to play there as he is someone the Aussies will have trouble with.

When Sinfield was used as a hooker I thought we looked much more stable and our go forward was very good, I'd like to see that again for sure and bring Roby on to cause havoc around the ruck.

With all this in mind lets face it we dont really have a chance anyway so why not just play our kids like Wattsy and get them ready for the World Cup??

Scott and Sinfield look fairly similar here... http://www.superleague.co.uk/statistics_player.php?hs1=2010&hp1=1921&hs2=2010&hp2=263&stat=tries&season=2010 The main differences are Sinfields tackle completion rate of 96% (which is pretty amazing) against Scotts of 90%.

Murrell edges the metres per carry (4.6 against 4.1) makes fewer errors and gives away fewer penalties and we all know he is quite handy with the 40/20.

Clearly these stats don't account for other attributes you might want in a rep player, experience, leadership, coolness under pressure etc. but in basic, measureable elements of the game there's not really much to choose between them. Maybe looking at the World Cup it might make sense to bring Murrell in now if a Sinfield type player is deemed a requirement for the national side.

Murrell's big asset to a touring party is his versatility. Similar to Lee Smith who will likely go ahead of players who are better wingers or centres or fullbacks because he can play wing and centre and fullback.
Basically I'd consider Murrell as cover for Sinfield and Roby - and probably only take him if one of them was unavailable. Is there a warm up game against Wales or France? F'ing useless as preparation for Aus and Nwz, but it'd be nice for him to get a cap at least, and well-deserved IMO.

Kris Welham cannot defend. Ive been saying it for ages, last friday showed this.

O'Loughlin won't be a centre either.

Is Liam Watts a Prop or Second row?

Liam is a Prop but he's played a fair few games a loose this season due to Murrell having to be moved to Standoff.

I'm not saying a good defensive game isnt important but, isn't a bit negative to pick players based upon defensive abilities, why not pick Welham because he can score tries, and is a great finisher?

Because hes not the best finisher (yes he is good though) and those that can finish just as good are better in defence?

Hes scores 2 tries but lets 5 in down his side; thats more negative then picking someone who wont let 5 in but could get the 2 tries to boot!....

I do like Welham when he has a good game its good through out but god when he is out of position do we know about it down his side, he is fast but i don't think he is good enough for England squad...

If ordinary players like Yeaman can play for his country Welham certainly can.
