Wests Tigers are that desperate to get Benji fit for the big game against the Raiders in the NRL they have been using a Hyperbaric chamber.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sp ... 5919875358

Basically this is the same piece of equipment they use to treat deep sea divers that have decompression sickness.

I have heard that its all propaganda to keep the Raiders guessing as to whether Benji plays or not.

So do these chambers really work for the type of injury Benji has?

Surely there must be some risks involved with using them?

Yes they do work on soft tissue ( and other) injuries as they help oxygen get to the affected are which speeds up the healing process.

Whether it will work in this case who knows.

I'm sure players over here have used them in the past too

If a club and player thinks that it is worth using to get the player back onto the field quickly then it is worth it.

Sporting injuries and the treatment of them are not really my forte if I'm honest... but surely rushing the healing process can be counter productive?

Its not unlike wrapping tape round a split radiator hose... it will get you home and maybe be ok for a quick fix... but long term the only way to fix it properly is to take the time to do the job right.

I know Marshall is Wests stand out player and without him they are probably stuffed... but I'm not sure I'd risk permanent damage to my knee by playing before I was 100% dead set fit again... whatever they were paying me.

Barrow use one fairly often and apparently they work very well with certain injuries.

Pity they could not make our player play any better, but there you go.

Yes it is.
