I'm not a fan of clauses like this. The big games should have the best players playing in them. This lad shouldn't miss out because of spite/ fear from another club.

He could always have honoured the contract which he cheerfully signed last year. Then there'd have been no problem.

I dont dispute that's it's a contractual issue and if it is legally binding that he can't play gainst Sheffield then of course, he shouldn't play. I still don't like these types of clauses. I just think rugby should be played on a pitch not in solicitors offices and court rooms.
