Moorends-Thorne Marauders became the first team to gain promotion in the new BARLA 2010/11 season, after only two league games the Yorkshire league committee granted the Marauders their wish and promoted them up a division.

Moorends stated their ambitions in the opening game of the season when they comprehensively :SHOOT: disposed of one of the pre-season favorites (Castleford Panthers `A`) 22 - 4, After short discussions with the Panthers committee Moorends wasted no time in asking the Yorkshire league committee for promotion.

The Yorkshire committee fairly stated that the Marauders should wait until they see how we got on against new boys Northallerton Stallions, after racking up a 76 - 6 victory after only 65 minutes (referee stopped the game) in which the Marauders had a player in the sin-bin for ten minutes the committee acted fast and after a short meeting with the Yorkshire league committee they  promoted :DRUMMER: the Doncaster side up a division.

Moorends will be wasting little time before they dip their toes in the waters of promotion, this Saturday will see Steve Parkes side :MOTOR: travelling the short distance to Pontefract to take on Nevison Leap A.R.L.F.C..

 Training :GROUPHUG: for the Marauders is every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6.30pm, on the Moorends Rec, Grange Road, Moorends, all new and old players  welcome.

Impressive ... congratulations ... any Dons stars of the future there?

Dons stars, they have favoured the Toll Bar that much in the past that we do not encourage players to go there anymore.

Before anyone comments, this is also the thoughts of many at Bentley Good Companions.

But this is a new Dons set-up.
Things could be different, couldn't they?

Could be mate and i really wish so, Moorends alone have had to wide thousands of pounds off that was due for players because of the change of ownership, only a couple of seasons ago we had a team that had won the national RLC & Merit championship raped to for a Dons second team, Moorends where never given a second thought.

It's these practices over many seasons that make the amateur clubs feel the way they do about the Dons.

Totally agree Jim ,but we are trying to put things right. As i know from my time with the comps a lot of good lads wont go back, but that is up to us as a club to try and change attitudes and encourage local talent to give us another look. Its tough as we dont run a second team anymore as it would give us a chance of blooding local players, but we are looking at getting the scholarship back up and running.

Is this going to be a scholarship that points all the players they take on board towards the Toll Bar again ? IO know for a fact that the RFL told all clubs outside of the Super League to nominate an amateur club to guide all potential pro players to, Toll Bar was the choice of the Dons.

How do I know this.....The guy in charge of the club was decent enough to phone me during a break in the meeting being held by the RFL and the clubs.

Probably because we are running a team in the BARLA leagues again ? If you had not noticed Moorends didn't field a team last season in the BARLA competitions.
