Having been contacted by the club today, i must regretfully report that long time eagles fan Mark sadly passed away at the weekend after illness.

Despite being blind since birth Mark attended almost every eagles home game and quite a lot of aways too. Indeed he came along in my car numerous times (including Whitehaven!) and often he asked me to commentate for him when the service wasnt there for him. His running joke when we turned up at an away ground that he was the referee was always popular.

As well as the eagles Mark was a regular at Hillsborough, he used to often say that he had the best view of the game in the ground by not having one at all . I live not two minutes from his house and our paths would cross regularly, and he never ever had a bad word to say about anything.

He was a good friend and i shall miss him very much.

Goodness me, didn't know he was ill. Didn't know him as well as you did obviously Mark but from the times I had spoken to him he was always a good laugh and an ardent supporter of the Eagles despite his inability to see the game. One amusing moment was when I went to Middlesbrough away last season to watch Wednesday, got on the coach and he was sat in my seat turned out he was on the wrong bus and problem was solved.

RIP.

Well that's a shock. Speaking as a fellow disabled supporter, I can only echo Dr. Badvibes comments. Despite a great handicap, Mark never let his disability get him down ( I have my moments, from time to time) and was a great inspiration to me. Anyone know when the funeral is (and where)? And will the club be represented? RIP Mark.

It usually is on these occasions. Can we have some details on the funeral when available ?

what a shock he was well liked by myself and most other eagles supporters . i used come home from the matches with him on the tram and bus , I also commentated on a few matches for mark when there was no pro commentry ,i was never much good and mark used to tell me who the players were .as said in the above posts any information on the details of the funeral would be much appreciated .he will be sadly missed rip mark .

I believe the funeral is next wednesday (8/9) at Grenoside. I hope to attend myself however i feel work will not allow it as the other person in the office is in norfolk. I will post further information as i receive it.

Mark had been an Eagles supporter for a long time.
I didn't realise he was ill despite like the Doc living quite close but I hadn't seen him at DVS or Bramall Lane for a while.

Wednesday's the only day that I have a commitment.
