A brief factoid : when I worked for the UK Sports Council in 2003/4, Women's RU got more funding from them for their performance programme than the whole of RL (men and women) did, despite having far fewer participants, a far lower profile, and no spectators at all.

On the face of it, that makes no sense whatsoever. However, I'm sure one of the many union apologists who frequent these boards could justify that 'factoid'.

2 International teams have professional RU ladies teams...and only 2 have a hells chance of winning the comp....NZ and.....you guessed it, England.
When it comes to hand outs, league doesn't do to badly as it goes...sport england do hand out a fair few quid.

As for the BBC........why do people bang on about them. They are a dying organisation who are reliant on the overseas and web broadcast market to keep afloat. 20 year and the will be like ITV.....and have to stand on their own...then they will be split up and sold off....and the domestic TV arm will be closed down......now that is progress

what else would you want a BBC TV promotion for a BBC TV programme to do?

i wonder how many other journalists took part in that session, and how many wrote/blogged about it.
