Any relaxation of the ball stripping rules would just mean players go back to falling into the tackle or running in backwards and dropping upon contact.
The rule is fine as it is, we just need proper officials, competent people with the ability to judge a situation properly.
and another referee come forward to take the challenge!!

I think the rule's OK as it is. I for one don't want to see wrestling for the ball all over the field at every tackle. However, I never did understand the rationale behind banning opposition players from striking for the ball at the PTB. Its not as though it was rife - a player playing the ball properly can easily get their body in a position to make it impossible. Very few players were good exponents at it, and if you stuffed it up you'd restart the tackle count or give away a penalty. It did however add to the uncertainty in the game.
I think sometimes league listens too much to what people like Gus Gould say on these things. There are certain things coaches may not like because they throw the occasional spanner in the works, but they actually add to the spectacle IMO.

Its another difficult decision to referee for our inept referees
Its a difficult one to amend or scrap now. We,ve got plenty of inept referees but this one is difficult to officiate, if there is a 4 man tackle, sometimes the ref could be on the wrong side of the tackle and is "blind" to the offence. The defensive sides are pretty good at it now, which makes it into a frustrating grey area at times.

I'd rather they changed the rule so you can't just rip it out you have to actually take the ball. At times it's too easy to stick an arm in and pull it free.

Probably no surprise then that Voss was bleating about the stripping rule in one of the recent editions of the NRL magazine.
